It goes light on the science in favor of competent human drama, falling into certain traps along the way. The Imitation Game is a historical film that feels like it follows a fairly standardized formula interspersed with the polished acting of Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley.
The film naturally focuses a great deal on these achievements and Turing’s personal life, and to someone as ignorant about the figure as myself it was illuminating, if conventional. He proceeded to tell me that Turing essentially created the first computer and was gay in a time where such things were illegal, and as a result was only credited by Queen Elizabeth around two years ago for his achievements. When my father asked me what I knew of Alan Turing on our way to see The Imitation Game I told him I knew of the Turing Test and that was about it.
